Ide Cambodia from Cambodia

$75000 to cover operational expenses for a water filter business in Cambodia during the COVID-19 crisis.

iDE is an international non-profit organization that creates income and livelihood opportunities for poor, rural households. Hydrologic is iDE’s social enterprise that manufactures and sells water filters in Cambodia. iDE and Hydrologic have worked with Kiva to provide more than $4.6 million in loans to borrowers since 2014, providing water filters that lower the risk of waterborne disease and eliminate the need to fetch and boil water and gather wood for fuel.

While historically a stable and sustainable organization, the global COVID-19 crisis has led to lockdowns and restrictions in Cambodia, which have severely impacted Hydrologic’s operations and led to a drop in sales due to reduced household incomes and access to customers.

Like many businesses around the world, Hydrologic is unable to operate normally as a result of the crisis, leading to a need to access flexible working capital to be able to cover operational costs and staff salaries. This loan of $75,000 will help support Hydrologic to weather this crisis and be in a position to continue to serve their customers in the aftermath of the pandemic as they recover from the economic impacts of the crisis.

This loan is part of Kiva’s Crisis Support Loan program to assist our Field Partner organizations directly so they can continue to support our borrowers. Because it is part of a pilot program, this loan may have higher risk. Read more in the "More about this loan" section below.
