$6625 to buy rice, sugar and cooking oil with her portion of the loan.

Alphonsine is a 43-year-old mother of five children aged between 2 and 17 years. Her husband is a businessman, and for the past 12 years, she has owned a grocery store.

She is the leader of the Abesamihigo Acb, which means “target maker” in English. The group members sell different items and own a variety of businesses.

Alphonsine will use her portion of the loan to buy rice, sugar and cooking oil to sell within her community. With the profit from her sales, she will be able to provide medical insurance to her family and expand her business.

She is grateful for the support from the lenders.

(Due to the global pandemic, Urwego was not able to photograph all of the group members. However, the photo shows one member who is representing the group.)
