Vicky from Uganda
$100 to purchase foods such as tomatoes and green bananas for her food stall.
Vicky is 19 years old and lives in the town of Aduku in the Lira region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past two years, Vicky has been working hard to manage her food stall, where she sells foods such as green bananas, tomatoes and Irish potatoes.
To help expand her business, Vicky has requested a loan of 300000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase foods such as tomatoes and green bananas and will help Vicky generate greater profits. She will then be in a position to improve her standard of living and pay school fees for her child.
Vicky hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a wholesale shop.
Vicky is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
