Note: the latest stable version release for Firefox is 8.2.2.8

Video DownloadHelper 5 is a complete rewrite of Video DownloadHelper 4.9.24.

Over the years, Video DownloadHelper 4 got several structural changes in the code to adapt to Firefox internal API modifications. We had to do those major architectural redesigns in emergency, which lead the code to a situation where every new modification, even minor, had a high risk to break everything. This is why you haven't seen updates in a while.

Long ago, we decided to rewrite the addon entirely using the new Firefox add-on SDK API, making the add-on restartless and providing a user interface more consistent with the latest browser versions, and with a cleaned architecture to allow adding future features with a lower risk to break things for millions of users who rely on DownloadHelper.

We would have taken more time to make Video DownloadHelper 5 public, but the release of Firefox 36 broke a major feature of the add-on: the ability to perform dowloads.

So we are releasing now Video DownloadHelper 5.0.0 with a few side-features missing, like the ability to capture a list of media links in batch mode or the add-on interface not available from the context menu. Do not worry, this will be available in 5.1, in an improved version, within a few weeks. In the mean time, we hope you will enjoy the new user interface, the many more video variants we now handle, and new goodies we let you discover.

It might be a good idea to have a look at a short documentation about how to do things with Video DownloadHelper 5.
